"While Vets for Freedom is encouraged by President-Elect Obama’s choices for National Security posts, we cannot let our guard down. Just this week, Leon Panetta was tapped to head the Central Intelligence Agency. Before joining the Clinton administration, Panetta served in Congress, where he focused on budget, nutrition and environmental issues- a far cry from the issues our country faces as we continue to pursue Islamic extremists around the globe.
Even Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) was caught off guard by this pick, stating that "my position has consistently been that I believe the Agency is best-served by having an intelligence professional in charge at this time." We agree.
And while the country and the President-elect are focused on the economy and how to fix it, there is talk on Capitol Hill of massive cuts in defense spending. As a country fighting two wars -with the threat of terrorism still very real- we cannot afford to weaken our defenses. Our military needs more troops and better equipment, and Vets for Freedom’s message to Congress in the coming weeks is simple - more money for the military means more jobs for Americans.
As the men and women of the Armed Forces continue to serve in harm’s way, it is vital that they have the support they need both in Congress and the White House. Vets for Freedom will continue to fight for those who wear the uniform, ensuring that successes and sacrifices do not fall on deaf ears in the halls of Capitol Hill."
Move out and draw fire!
