Panic on the Left

Insults, defamation and lies fly from the lefties propping up Obama's sagging campaign. To their chagrin, he jumped the shark way back in Berlin. All he needs now is to jump in a tank to sink like a stone.

For years, Democrats and the Left have campaigned against Republicans not on the issues, but on the “isms,” smearing Republican candidates with accusations of “racism,” “sexism,” “extremism,” “McCarthyism,” etc. Yesterday, the tables were turned, and Obama got a taste of his own medicine.

Speaking in Virginia, Obama made a point about the similarities between Senator McCain and George Bush and said that if you put lipstick on a pig, it’s still a pig. But if you saw the video, and I did, and saw how the audience reacted and consider the pause in his statement, it is clear how the audience took Obama’s remark – as a mocking reference to Sarah Palin. You may recall Palin’s famous quip in her acceptance speech, “You know the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? Lipstick.”

Senator Obama insists he wasn’t calling Sarah Palin a pig, but it is clear from the video that that is how his audience understood his remark, and I believe he knew exactly what he was saying and how it likely would be taken. Why do I say that? Because Democrats have been using the phrase “lipstick on a pig” to refer specifically to Sarah Palin for days now. Check out this blog on the Democrat Party’s official webpage and note the picture of a pig with glasses.

Whenever a Republican makes a gaffe or a questionable remark, it is front page, headline news. No apology is good enough. But, as the saying goes, being a Democrat means never having to say you’re sorry. Don’t believe me? How about Joe Biden calling Barack Obama a “clean black” or suggesting that you can’t go into a 7-11 store without an Indian accent? There would have been 24/7 outrage on the Left and in the media if a Republican had said either of those things. Remember what happened to George Allen and Trent Lott? Where are they now, and where is Joe Biden today?

But, not to be outdone in the tit-for-tat exchange, the Democrat Governor of New York, David Paterson, is now suggesting that the term “community organizer” is code for “black.” Here’s what Gov. Paterson said at a business forum yesterday:

“I think the Republican Party is too smart to call Barack Obama ‘black’ in a sense that it would be a negative. But you can take something about his life, which I noticed they did at the Republican Convention – a ‘community organizer.’ They kept saying it, they kept laughing.” Once again, we are seeing just how desperate the Democrats are to play the race card, and they are grasping at straws now. Are there no white community organizers? Let me clear up the governor’s confusion. No one was laughing at black Americans. They were laughing at the notion that anyone, white or black, would think such a thin resume would qualify someone for the presidency of the United States.

But however you want to take it, here’s what is going on. The Left is in panic mode. It is desperate to win, and it thought this election was going to be delivered to Obama on a silver platter. Sarah Palin has reinvigorated the GOP’s conservative base. She is drawing large numbers of women, and Independents are rallying to Sen. McCain.

There are reports this morning that 23,000 people turned out to see Sen. McCain and Sarah Palin in the Washington, D.C., suburbs of Northern Virginia, a Democrat stronghold in the state. This campaign has turned into a real race, and, right now, we are winning it! As a result, the Left sees that its only path to power is to destroy Sarah Palin, and that is exactly what it is trying to do.

Sliming Sarah

In its desperation to smear Sarah Palin, the Left has gone so overboard that the media have finally been shamed into coming to her defense. To it’s credit, Newsweek posted this story on Monday to knock down some of the outrageous rumors the Left has perpetuated.

But the Democrats aren’t done. Veteran Wall Street Journal reporter John Fund broke the story yesterday that “Democrats have airdropped a mini-army of 30 lawyers, investigators and opposition researchers into Anchorage, the state capital Juneau and Mrs. Palin’s hometown of Wasilla to dig into her record and background.”

Let me reiterate this point: The target audience in this assault on Sarah Palin’s character is you! Your support for this ticket has turned the race upside, and the Left is reeling. In fact, Bloomberg reports today that a number of Democrats are now openly voicing fears that they just might lose.

That said, we must guard against complacency, and we must be prepared for whatever the Left throws at us. I can’t tell you how many emails I have received from well-meaning conservatives who are expressing concerns about information they have gotten about Sarah Palin, almost all of it false, or fake pictures they have received that purport to be her.

Folks, let me be as clear as I can: Either McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden will be sworn in as our next president and vice president. They could hardly be more different in their worldviews. This is a time for choosing, and I urge every man and woman who cares about faith, family and freedom to choose to use their vote wisely and in a manner that will do the most good for our values on November 4th.

For me, that is a very easy choice. Doing anything other than voting for Senator McCain and Governor Palin would be helping the election of Barack Obama, guaranteeing our own defeat in the culture war and courting disaster on a host of other important issues like the economy and national security.
