Republican National Convention: A Call for Reform
Tony Perkins, Family Research Council Action President, has highlights from the Republican National Convention.
Senator McCain's Call for Change
The Republican Convention wrapped up last night with a humble acceptance speech by Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) calling on Americans to serve others and explaining how he learned to love this country through his arduous service to our country during time of war. To rousing applause Senator McCain stated: "We believe in a strong defense, work, faith, service, a culture of life, personal responsibility, the rule of law, and judges who dispense justice impartially and don't legislate from the bench. We believe in the values of families, neighborhoods and communities." The Arizona senator called for a reformist agenda that tackles political corruption in both parties, a feat both he and his running mate, Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin, have accomplished. Saying education is the civil rights cause of this century, Senator McCain received loud applause when he called for school choice so that schools will answer to parents and students, not bureaucracies. Senator McCain said he knows the horrors of war, and the need for peace. However, he made it clear he would not back down from those countries and terrorists who actively challenge our way of life. Senator McCain issued a challenge to all Americans, to serve our country first, beyond self or party.
