COUNTDOWN TO NOVEMBER 4TH: 49 DAYS TO ELECTION DAY
There They Go Again
For all its talk about “tolerance” and “progressive values,” there is a totalitarian impulse on the Left. It is most evident in the militant homosexual rights movement and the anti-war crowd that shouts down opponents on college campuses and in congressional hearings when members of the military or the administration try to testify. We saw the worst of it at the Republican National Convention when leftwing anarchists smashed windows, assaulted police officers, plotted to kidnap delegates and repeatedly interrupted Senator McCain’s acceptance speech.
But the latest manifestation is even more disturbing, because it is coming right out of a presidential campaign that is supposed to be all about the free debate of ideas. On August 28th, we told you about how the Obama campaign itself – not some leftwing group, but the campaign – has organized protests of radio stations when well-informed conservatives, like Dr. Stanley Kurtz, have been invited to appear on a show. Well, the Obama camp has done it again. This time the target was conservative columnist and author David Freddoso, who wrote The Case Against Barack Obama.
Freddoso was scheduled to appear on the Milt Rosenberg Show on Chicago’s WGN radio station. But the Obama campaign immediately went into attack mode and fired out an email blast to supporters in the Chicago area denouncing Freddoso as an “extreme hate monger” who dared to compare “hate crimes” legislation to thought control. On that count, Freddoso is in good company. Just about every pro-family leader has called “hate crimes” legislation thought control because that is exactly what it is. The Obama campaign urged its followers to flood the radio station with angry calls -- even though Freddoso was scheduled to appear on the air with an Obama supporter.
Did you get that, my friends? Forget about the Fairness Doctrine. Forget about “equal time” for both sides. Just forget about free speech altogether! The Left only wants you to hear its side of the story, its version of the “truth,” its set of “facts.”
Here’s why I believe we should be worried. The Left has already demonstrated its concern for the rights of accused terrorists. They have attacked the administration for trying too hard to protect the country from our enemies. Anti-American terrorists evidently deserve more rights than conservatives. If this gang is in control of the government, who is going to protect us when they are attacking reporters and researchers?
