Republicans have many reasons to like this year's platform, according to Family Research Council Action.
A Platform to be Proud Of
On the life issue the platform states they "will not fund organizations involved in abortion" and rightfully declares, "At its core, abortion is a fundamental assault on the sanctity of innocent human life. Women deserve better than abortion." It also renews the call that every "effort should be made to work with women considering abortion to enable and empower them to choose life."
The document calls for more research into ethical forms of stem cell research, which has shown the most promise in treatments, and calls for a ban on human cloning and a ban on the use of humans at any stage of life for harmful experimentation.
The Republican platform mentions family or families 72 times, stating, "The family is the most powerful influence on a child's ability to succeed." To protect the family unit, the platform calls for a
marriage protection amendment and for strong protection of the Defense of Marriage Act.This year has marked one of the most open and democratic processes that we have ever seen. Kudos must go to the drafters of the document, the many hard-working delegates who served on the Platform Committee, and to Senator McCain (R-Ariz.) for allowing such an open debate.
