ACORN: Video No. 4
Thomas A. Schatz, The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), urges you to watch the fourth in the series of investigative videos produced by filmmaker James O’Keefe, showing ACORN employees providing advice about how to get away with prostitution, tax evasion, human trafficking, and other criminal activities.
"If you thought the video I sent you last week was shocking, wait until you see this one from ACORN’s San Bernardino, Calif. office!
Since I sent my e-mail to you last week, the Attorneys General of California and Maryland, where Mr. O’Keefe shot most of his videos, have begun investigating ACORN’s activities, joining the 15 other states where ACORN is under investigation or has been indicted for fraud following the group’s activities in relation to the 2008 elections.
The Inspectors General of the Justice Department and of the Department of Housing and Urban Development have also launched probes into grants provided by their departments to ACORN, and how those grant monies were used.
Even more importantly, the IRS announced just yesterday that it would no longer include ACORN in its volunteer tax assistance program, which offers free tax advice to low- and moderate-income Americans.
The IRS action follows the U.S. Census Bureau’s termination of its partnership with ACORN for conducting the 2010 National Census. In his letter announcing the decision, Census Bureau Director Robert Groves cited “worsening negative perceptions of ACORN,” due in large part to Mr. O’Keefe’s videos and the efforts of groups like CCAGW that have drawn public scrutiny to the questionable activities of ACORN.
What’s more, the Senate has overwhelmingly approved two amendments that would ban federal money for ACORN in the Fiscal 2010 Transportation/Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill and in the Interior and Environment Appropriations bill.
Most significantly, on the heels of CCAGW's lobbying and grassroots campaign kick-off, the House approved a motion on a vote of 345-75 that would cut off all federal funding for ACORN and its state affiliates."
