Dem Candidate Sits on the Sidelines

...and shows an incredible lack of concern for public safety.

Democrat candidate for Attorney General misses significance of Supreme Court Decision

RICHMOND -- Last evening, State Senator and Republican nominee for Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli made an urgent plea to Governor Tim Kaine to call a special session of the General Assembly to address issues related to the Melendez-Diaz case decided by the United States Supreme Court.

"The matter as viewed by Ken Cuccinelli is not a matter of politics, but a matter of immediate public safety that if not corrected, will find Commonwealth's Attorneys from all over Virginia dismissing cases related to drunk driving and drug offenses," said Chris LaCivita, advisor to Ken Cuccinelli.

"Unfortunately, Steve Shannon has decided to interject politics into a serious matter - a matter that every "prosecutor" should know about. It should also be noted that the non-partisan Commonwealth's Attorneys' Services Council executive board voted 13-1 in favor of a special session to fix this issue, and they are the ones on the front line of the war on crime and played a critical role in Senator Cuccinelli's decision," continued LaCivita.

"Instead of sitting on the sidelines as Steve Shannon has done his entire legislative career, he should roll up his sleeves and get out into Virginia and ask those fighting crime what he can do to help, instead of sitting in the bleachers throwing partisan barbs," concluded LaCivita.
