Robert Hurt Statement On National Debt Topping $16 Trillion
WASHINGTON, D.C. –
Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) today released the following statement
after the United States national debt surpassed $16 trillion:
“The news that our
national debt has surpassed $16 trillion is a renewed wake up call for our
colleagues in the Senate and the White House that Washington D.C.’s spending
binge must come to an end. Since President Obama took office, we have
accumulated over $5 trillion in debt. And absent any initiative by the Senate
and the White House, that debt will only continue to accumulate as the
House-passed budget, which would cut trillions, sits awaiting action in the
Senate.
“The House of
Representatives will continue to lead the way, demanding we put an end to
business as usual in order to stop Washington’s wasteful spending spree. On
behalf of the people of Virginia’s 5th District, I am committed
to putting in place real reforms that will tackle the drivers of our debt and
deficit, reduce the size and scope of the federal government, and make the
tough choices to put this nation on a fiscally sustainable course in order to
preserve the American opportunity and the American promise for our children and
grandchildren.”
