Last week, House Republicans were hard at work on Capitol Hill, passing legislation on behalf of the American people and holding radical Democrats accountable.
On the legislative front, our conference secured the passage of six commonsense and broadly bipartisan pieces of legislation. Tuesday night, we passed H.RES.793 – "To condemn the October Seventh Attack on Israel," and H.RES.888 – "To reaffirm Israel's right to exist." I remain steadfast in my support for our ally Israel and the Jewish people. On Thursday night we passed H.R. 5691 – "Freezes $6 billion in Iranian prisoner swap funds," H.R. 5283 – "Bans migrant housing on federal land," H.R. 4666 – "Requires the Small Business Administration's Inspector General to report on COVID fraud," and H.R. 4667 – "Requires the Small Business Administration's Administrator to issue guidance on handling returned PPP loans."
Simply put, it is the job of our government to secure the border & protect the American people. If radicals in the Biden administration, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the U.S. Senate keep refusing to do this job, there must be serious consequences. DHS funding is critical but questions arise when they too refuse to do their job. On Day 1, President Biden instituted the destructive open borders policy that has been indiscriminately harming all communities across our nation. I am proud to have voted for and co-sponsored Rep. Malliotakis's H.R. 5283–to prohibit the Biden admin from housing illegal migrants on federal land.
I also attended three committee hearings. In the Financial Services Committee we spoke with leaders of the CFPB to discuss red tape in our system. Congress should take its Article 1 powers seriously. We should be reviewing financial regulatory statues to ensure that the credit-raising & capital disbursement mechanisms of our economy aren't bogged-down by red tape. This has occurred over many decades & must be cleared-up. In the House Oversight Committee Government Operations and the Workforce Subcommittee, we examined unacceptable case backlogs at the Social Security Administration. In Southwest Florida, maximum processing times should be 49.5 days but instead, maximum processing times are currently 225 days.
Regarding further oversight, I took three actions last week. (1.) I was afforded the opportunity to speak on the floor of the Hour of Representatives to discuss my concerns with the President's ties to China. The President has taken money from foreign sources. Meanwhile our world is on fire. Is he compromised? Does China have the upper-hand on him as our enemies are on the move? These are serious questions that must be answered & the way to do that is through impeachment inquiry. (2.) I signed-onto Rep. Chip Roy's bill to defund the office of our climate czar John Kerry. (3.) I joined Representatives Timmons and Barr in calling on financial institutions to halt the issuance of certain long-term debt.
As your Congressman, you have my commitment to work on your behalf and restore order and proper governance to The People's House.
