SUVGOP. NoVA GOP News: District Elections...and more!

Saturday, the 7th CD Republican Committee held their convention in Stafford County. The Convention delegates elected (L-R): Brett Pritchett and Laird Knights, and re-elected Tim Parrish to four-year terms on the Republican Party of Virginia's (RPV) State Central Committee (SCC), the governing body of the Virginia GOP. As mentioned in last week's newsletter, 7th CD Chairman Ben Hazekamp (far right) was unchallenged in his re-election bid and will continue serving on SCC and on the RPV Executive Committee. Congratulations all!

Some of our US Senate candidates have been working and traveling the Commonwealth for more than a year in their effort to become the Republican nominee to challenge career politician Tim Kaine.

Now we're at crunch time because on or before April 4, 5:00pm, each US Senate candidate must file 10,000 signatures with the Board of Elections from qualified Virginia voters (this includes at least 400 signatures from each Congressional District) to be on the June 18 Primary Ballot. Who will make the deadline and who won't? Stay tuned! You can see our Senate candidates HERE. (Note: Chief Ron Vitiello withdrew from the race in early March).

A belated Happy Birthday to our Grand Opportunity Party! Last Wednesday, March 20, marked the 170th anniversary of the initial gathering of anti-slavery activists who opposed the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. Alvin Earle Bovay, an attorney and co-founder of Ripon College, was incensed by the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act and called a meeting at a small church in Ripon, Wisconsin. Bovay was the first to use the term "Republican" and the party was formed to fight slavery. Ripon is an hour and twenty minutes from Milwaukee if you want to make a pilgrimage to the Party's birthplace before or after this year's Republican National Convention. Tour info and background HERE.
