Florida: Senator Rick Scott's Week in Review

When you sent me to the Senate in 2018, I promised to Make Washington Work for Florida families. That shouldn't be an impossible job, but I've found that Washington will do anything to stop commonsense change that fixes problems for the American people. That hasn't kept me from fighting, and this week, our effort to make Washington work for you and combat the fentanyl crisis got a big win when President Biden signed my bipartisan END FENTANYL Act.

We needed the END FENTANYL Act because a 2019 report found that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) drug interdiction guidance had not been updated in 20 years – predating the invention of modern fentanyl. This outdated guidance was putting CBP agents at a major disadvantage in the fight to keep deadly drugs out of our country. My bill fixes this problem, and I am proud that this good legislation received completely unanimous support in both the Senate and House of Representatives

The END FENTANYL Act becoming law is a big win in our fight against the lethal opioid epidemic, but it is not the end. President Biden must do more to secure the border and stop the deadly fentanyl that continues to flow illegally into the U.S. over the southern border and kills tens of thousands of our citizens.

I look forward to seeing the Biden administration immediately implement this law and give America's brave CBP agents the tools needed to keep these dangerous drugs out of our communities. While nothing can heal the crushing heartbreak felt by the hundreds of thousands of families torn apart by fentanyl and who have lost loved ones, the END FENTANYL Act will make a difference in our fight to end the suffering.
