Shrink Washington & Grow America

Last week, the House of Representatives addressed the debt limit by passing the Save, Limit, Grow Act, based on the tenets of the "Shrink Washington, Grow America" proposal released by the House Freedom Caucus a few weeks ago.

The Senate must now pass this bill, and should not consider any other legislation until they match our efforts to put us on a path to fiscal solvency.

When I first ran for Congress in 2020, I recognized that our reckless federal spending and national debt was an existential threat to the country, and that is why I asked to serve on the House Budget Committee.

We still have a long way to go to balance our budget and eliminate our massive $31.6 trillion national debt, but this bill is a historic step toward growing the American economy, while shrinking Washington spending.

Here are just a few things this bill does:

✅ Reduces non-defense discretionary spending back to pre-COVID levels, immediately saving $131 billion, and places 1% caps on future discretionary spending growth. The entire bill results in immediate spending cuts of about $1 trillion in year one, and nearly $5 trillion over 10 years.

✅ Rescinds Biden's $500 billion student loan transfer scheme, $80 billion IRS expansion to hire 87,000 new agents, and $50 billion in unspent COVID funds. It also cancels hundreds of billions in harmful climate funding and subsidies.

✅ Reinstates work requirements for able-bodied, working-age, Americans without dependents who are receiving federal assistance. This is important to ignite our economy and combat generational poverty, and it provides tens of billions in savings each year.

✅ Restores the constitutional power of the legislative branch by implementing the REINS Act, which requires a congressional vote for all major rules and regulations attempted by unelected bureaucrats operating our federal agencies and departments.

✅ Re-establishes reliable and affordable American energy production, by implementing H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act. This repeals natural gas taxes, bans on fracking, drilling on federal lands, and coal leases. It streamlines the federal energy permitting process and puts us back on a path to American energy independence.

These successes are exactly why we worked so hard to win a majority in the House of Representatives. It is also why we fought the Speaker battle to change how Congress operates. We are truly trying to save America.

Now, we call on the Senate to pass the Save, Limit, Grow Act and help us promote a more prosperous future for our country.

Thank you for your trust and confidence in me as I continue to fight for the things that matter most to you and your family.

For God and Country,

Bob
