Last week, House Republicans unanimously elected Speaker Mike Johnson to lead our conference and got back to work. The week began with various rounds of internal elections for Speaker of the House. Having previously supported Jim Jordan, once he left the race, I submitted my candidacy as an option to help unite our conference and get us back to work as quickly as possible.
Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana eventually won the Speakership after various rounds of voting. He is a fantastic option for our conference. Mike received united support of House Republicans and is a man of impeccable character, integrity and honor. He has also devoted his life to protecting religious liberty and conservative principles. Accountability, proper governance, and a better future are incoming under Speaker Johnson.
Immediately upon his formal election on the floor of the House of Representatives, we got back to work passing legislation. The first bill Speaker Johnson brought to the floor was in support of our friend and ally Israel. It's beyond time that our House of Representatives officially stands with Israel in their fight against the heinous barbarism of Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists in Gaza. This vote should have been a no-brainer for members, yet fifteen Democrats refused to support this legislation.
On the legislative front, my office was active regarding border security and securing a win for religious liberty. I am proud to partner with Rep. Feenstra of Iowa on H.R. 4904 - The Build the Wall & Fight Fentanyl Act. This bill will help us fund the construction and maintenance of physical barriers along the Southern Border and award grants to organizations addressing the fentanyl crisis. Simply put, we must prioritize border security! Also, we learned Walter Reed Hospital has reinstated the ability for Catholic priests to provide pastoral care after a "cease & desist" had previously banned such action. This victory for religious liberty is a direct result of Rep. Mary Miller's efforts–which I am proud to have co-sponsored.
Regarding efforts to restore accountability in our federal government, our House Oversight and Accountability Committee investigation into Biden family corruption is continuing to uncover new and damning findings. Two big developments occurred last week. Investigators found a $200,000.00 direct payment to Joe Biden involving his family's shady business dealings. New information recently obtained by Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, also found that the FBI maintained over forty confidential human sources on various Biden family criminal matters. However, a Washington, DC, Field Office task force sought to and in some cases, successfully, shut down their findings–falsely discrediting them as foreign disinformation. Our investigation continues onward and without disruption.
Finally, on the breaking news front, there are two key stances that I have taken: (1.) Aid for Israel should be separate from additional aid for Ukraine. Biden must stop using Israel for another unaccountable blank check to Ukraine. (2.) Rep. Rashida Tlaib's recent commentary towards Israel has been vile. Israel is our greatest ally in the Middle East. Hamas is a barbaric terrorist organization that beheaded babies. If a censure vote hits the floor, I will be voting yes.
As your Congressman, you have my commitment to work on your behalf and restore order and proper governance to The People's House.
