Amanda Chase: What happened in the Virginia Senate This Week?

Since session first gavel in on Wednesday, January 10, I've been remotely watching the Democrat controlled Senate committees, subcommittees and session each day. I'm not surprised to see Senate Democrats kill most Republican sponsored bills that are of significance and we actually care about. Nonetheless, it's still disturbing. The looming question is what happens in 2 years? Will we have a Republican governor who will veto these Democrat mandates? That question keeps me up at night.

This week we have seen a slew of gun control bills pass in both houses, bills to ban leaf blowers in the House and bills that keep males out of playing females sports die in the Senate. We've seen a Senate bill requiring public school athletes to get a mental health examination in order to continue participate in sports pass out of committee in the Senate.

Pro-individual liberty bills die and the authoritarian mandates continue to pass both the Senate and the House at record pace.

Our only backstop to the government control and mandates is Governor Glen Youngkin, who is going to have the opportunity to

veto all of these mandates. Thankfully, the Democrats only have a one seat majority, so they will not be able to override any of the governor's vetoes.

It's now up to Governor Youngkin to veto all of the gun control legislation. Governor Youngkin is currently our only hope for stopping all of the bad legislation passing both houses right now.
