Congressman Good Update

Opposing a Bad Tax Deal

The House passed a tax bill that would temporarily extend a handful of the expiring pro-growth tax cuts that President Trump signed into law in 2017. While I supported those provisions, I ultimately voted against the bill because it also included expanded welfare payments under the guise of a child tax credit. Worse, it permits millions of illegal aliens to receive these welfare payments as well. Unfortunately, conservatives were denied the opportunity to offer amendments to the bill that would have fixed the glaring problems.

With over 10 million new illegal aliens entering our country thanks to President Biden, a House Republican majority should not agree to a bill that further incentivizes the invasion at our Southern Border by giving them access to even more free stuff paid for by taxpayers.

Combating Biden's Open Borders

President Biden refuses to follow the law and secure our Southern Border. This week, the House passed several border-related bills which I strongly supported. I voted YES on a bill to create criminal offenses for illegals using vehicles to flee Border Patrol Agents, YES to ensure that NO ONE involved in the horrific October 7 attacks on Israel can enter the U.S., and YES to make it a deportable offense for an illegal alien to commit social security fraud.

I am encouraged that the resolution to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas is advancing toward a vote on the House Floor. He has put our country in danger by failing to enforce existing law, and facilitating the border invasion. He must be held accountable.

Confronting the Postal Service

My office hears regularly from Virginians who experience delays in the delivery of bills, tax documents, critical medical information, and other mail by the United States Postal Service (USPS). Members of my team and I have met with USPS representatives on multiple occasions to address the delivery issues and try to help resolve the problems for our constituents.

Recently, after hundreds of at-home cancer testing kits were rendered useless due to delivery delays, I joined other members of the Virginia Delegation in a bipartisan letter to USPS demanding answers for their poor performance.

Fighting to Preserve American History

I sent two letters demanding accountability and transparency from recent efforts by the now-completed Naming Commission, voicing my concerns about efforts to rewrite our nation's history. The Commission recently concluded their efforts to remove historic memorials, culminating with the removal of Arlington National Cemetery's "Reconciliation Monument."

Historical sites are meant to preserve moments that were critical to the growth and healing of our nation and should not be subject to the destructive ruse of political wokeness. I am calling for a full accounting of the actions taken by the Naming Commission so the American people can see for themselves how the Biden Administration used their tax dollars, and if they did so to arbitrarily erase our history.

You can read more about it on Fox Digital.

Recognizing Young Innovators

Every year, middle and high school students across the 5th District submit their applications to participate in the Congressional App Challenge, a competition for students interested in STEM to code an application of their preference. This year, an extraordinary app called "Illness IQ," took the prize. It helps individuals diagnose medical symptoms without having to see a doctor. Congratulations to this year's winners Adrian Park, Sean Fu, and Emmett Lach from Albemarle High School!

Holding the CBO Accountable

The Budget Committee held a hearing on Congressional Budget Office (CBO) oversight. The CBO has a long history of being wrong on long term cost projections which misinform Congress and the American people on critical pieces of legislation.

One of the most recent examples was the CBO underestimating by almost $1 trillion the cost of the climate related giveaways in one of President Biden's signature initiatives – the misnamed Inflation Reduction Act. The cost to taxpayers will be nearly triple what CBO told Congress when we were voting on the bill, which not surprisingly, is actually causing inflation to increase.
