Continuing Bad Policies Because Congress has still not completed its work on the required 12 annual spending bills, the House passed another continuing resolution (CR) to temporarily fund the government and avoid a partial government shutdown on March 1. Once again, I voted against the continuation of the Biden-Pelosi-Schumer spending levels and policies which are doing irreparable harm to the American people. This CR continues to fund the border invasion, the Pentagon's abortion travel policy, taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries, gun registries, and radical climate change initiatives. It also maintains spending levels that are causing a monthly deficit of nearly $200 billion. The open border policies funded by this bill have brought increased drug overdoses, human trafficking, and violent crime to every corner of our country. Just this past week we learned of sexual assault charges in Campbell County against an illegal alien who was released into the country by the Biden Administration last fall. It is another tragic example of why Republicans in Congress must use the power of the purse to force Democrats to join them in securing the border. The CR is also a bridge to two "mini-bus" spending deals negotiated between Senator Chuck Schumer and Speaker Mike Johnson that will spend billions more than the $1.6 trillion omnibus that Democrats passed at the end of 2022. I am instead advocating for a long-term CR extending thru the September 30 fiscal year, that would cut $100 billion from the Johnson-Schumer deal, with our H.R. 2 border security bill attached to it. Sadly, at a time when we have an open border and we are adding nearly $200 billion every month to our $34 trillion national debt, Speaker Johnson and too many Republicans are still unwilling to risk a government shutdown that would force Democrats to the negotiating table. The days of spending without consequences are over, as Americans are suffering under 40-year high inflation, and 20-year high interest rates. Everything we vote for in these annual spending bills is borrowed from our kids and our grandkids. We should not be joining hands with Democrats in the name of "governing", to show we can "get things done", no matter the harm to future generations. While a partial government shutdown may not be ideal, continuing the status quo is far worse and should not be an option. |
Court Decides in Favor of Life at Conception The Alabama Supreme Court ruled in favor of parents seeking damages after their embryos were destroyed as the result of negligence at an IVF facility. Sadly, the Biden Administration, Democrats, and their friends in the media are trying to make this case about the right to abortion and are calling into question the scientific fact that life begins at conception. The Alabama Supreme Court did not ban IVF in any way, but it recognized that embryonic children are persons under the law. The Court affirmed that every human life deserves to be treated with dignity. There is a bill in the Senate offered by Democrat Senator Duckworth (IL) to allegedly protect access to IVF. This bill would override state pro-life laws and individual religious objections to participate in the destruction of embryos. Republicans in the House and Senate should reject this radical legislation. |
