Last week my office was hard at work on Capitol Hill holding the radicals in the Biden administration accountable and delivering upon meaningful solutions on behalf of our Southwest Florida community, the State of Florida, and the American people.
Oversight was a key theme of the week. I was in attendance at Hunter Biden's long-awaited deposition. What I heard and witnessed was actually in direct contradiction to what other witnesses have testified under oath. There was also significant obfuscation from Hunter. This calls into question how forthcoming he was to us. There's no real reason why he was so critical to raising all of this global capital, except for the fact that his last name is Biden–he couldn't come to a clear answer either.
During Hunter's testimony he had total recall of conversations as to why he should join Burisma. In the same testimony he couldn't recall anything about communications surrounding multi-million dollar deals. This dissembling also demonstrates that he was not being factual with us. The entire design of the Biden family's corrupt business structure was to be confusing to investigators and conceal transactions. For Hunter Biden, the design of this business structure was also to evade taxes. Now we're being told that Hunter answered everything "honestly" – then why is he a tax evader? Hunter Biden will be coming back soon to testify in an open public hearing.
Notably last week, the Oversight Committee also released the transcripts from Hunter Biden, Jim Biden, and Jason Galanis's depositions in our ongoing investigation into Biden family corruption. The Oversight Committee also subpoenaed the Department of Justice for Special Counsel Hur's Joe Biden interview records.
The border was a main focus of the week as well. As we approached the March 1, government funding deadline, I made my position clear. I argued that we must be honest with the American people: Government has a responsibility to secure the border. Our cities are overrun. Our schools are overrun. Our shelters are overrun. Women are sold into sex slavery daily. This is un-American and completely inhumane. Our border must be secured period and I argued that the border must be secured first before any other business regarding government funding was conducted.
Later in the week, while leaving a meeting at the White House, Senate Majority Leader Schumer confirmed the America Last priorities of his caucus. He declared, "...we gotta do Ukraine now. There are other issues including border which we should address, but not now." This is the problem. The House's solution to the border crisis, H.R. 2 – "The Secure The Border Act," was passed on May 11, 2023 and was immediately sent to the Senate. For the past 298 days, Leader Schumer has sat on this bill, refused to put it up for debate, and never worked with us along H.R. 2's framework to craft a bipartisan, consensus solution. Instead, Democrats and the media gaslight the American people over a terrible bill that failed the Senate, had no House Republican input, and would have worsened the border crisis. You cannot talk about "bipartisanship" when Senate Democrats refuse to talk solutions with us. They're playing the worst kind of politics.
