Republicans Seek Energy Independence While Democrats Seek to Raise Taxes

Congressman Eric Cantor asks for your input on finding energy independence.

Real American Solutions

By Rep. Eric Cantor

Last week, something surprising happened in Washington, DC. A member of Congress stood up and said he refuses to vote for the Democrat's budget because it raises taxes. What's surprising is that member of Congress is himself a Democrat. Bill Foster (D-IL) said in a statement, "I can't support a budget, from either party, that raises taxes on the middle class." After hearing time and again from liberal leaders in Washington that their budget didn't raise taxes, one of their own has said they were lying.Solution Factory

So once again, with a struggling economy, Democrat leaders are forcing massive tax hikes down our throats that will further increase distrust in government and a continued stagnating economy.

As Republicans, we know that the path to a stronger economy is by lowering taxes, not raising them. With gasoline prices hitting an average over $4/gallon this past weekend, a number of different proposals are being introduced by Republican leadership. The Republican Leadership recently released a list of seven bills that will be introduced over the next seven weeks that directly address the energy crisis.

While the Democrats are blowing rhetorical smoke, the Republicans are offering real solutions.

Now we want to hear about your solutions.

A few weeks ago, when we introduced our original proposals, you were gracious enough to post your feelings about what we should do. More than 2,000 people from all across the country posted their thoughts about our proposals. Today is no different - we want to hear from you, the working families again. What are your ideas when it comes to energy independence?
