SUBURBAN REPUBLICAN WEEKLY March 11, 2024: ELECTIONS MATTER! DEMOCRATS SEND MASSIVE BUDGET TO GOVERNOR "LUCAS-NOMICS" COMES TO VIRGINIA

On Saturday, the General Assembly passed a two-year $188 billion state budget that's packed with far-left progressive programs and related costs which will take more money out of YOUR pocket. And not only your pocket but increased taxes on every business in Virginia which means higher prices for every good and service in the Commonwealth. We're dealing with "Bidenomics" on the national level, and now we have to pay higher prices due to "Lucas-nomics" (Senator Louise Lucas) in Virginia!

Here are just a few of the unbelievable bills and budget items dropped on the Governor's desk. Thank God we have him there to veto the Democrats aggressive swing Left!!

  • New Digital Tax: This means your streaming service, every new app, and software purchased by you or a business will now be taxed. Hold on to your Apple Pay, Venmo and PayPal because Virginia Democrats are a-coming!
  • More Expensive Electricity: Dems want Virginia to rejoin the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) which will increase everyone's electricity costs. This after NOT fixing the Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA) which requires every Virginian to purchase an electric vehicle (and other terrible, expensive green crazy ideas) within ten years.
  • Pouring More Money Into METRO: Every business had to make adjustments during the pandemic, but not if you're an out-of-control bureaucracy. METRO is now $750 million in debt and asking the DMV (mostly V) to bail it out; and they have their Democrat friends in Richmond very willing to send your money. Virginia Democrats want to send $150 million more to METRO with no changes in their operations. What's that saying.... "throwing good money after bad"?
  • Pushing Pot: Democrats passed a bill to legalize retail marijuana. Why? More tax money for the state, of course, without thinking of the damage to our children and grandchildren. Plus higher crime rates, costs to our healthcare system, etc. Just look at the problems in Oregon, California and Colorado with increased drug use!
  • More Local Taxes on the Way: Democrats are exclaiming how the State is spending more money on education, but lift the covers and see (a) a lot of money is wasted on "education administrators" (ask any teacher, principal, honest school board member). Not only the DEI wasteful spending, but also all the mandates. And, (b) the 3% teacher salary increase must be matched by the local school district, i.e. your property taxes are going to go up again! More moving trucks leaving NoVA, Baby!

We could go on and on but let's just say this a stinker of a progressive budget and the Governor should take his VETO knife and start cutting. The General Assembly comes back for a special budget session on April 17 to accept or reject the Governor's budget changes. Make sure you tell your local Senator and Delegate where you stand on the budget.
