Parents Need to Know the Truth About Social Emotional Learning

It's been called a "Trojan Horse," and "possibly the most important topic happening in education, at least if you care about the well-being, health, and safety of children and the future of this country."

But what is Social Emotional Learning, and why does it matter?

Social Emotional Learning started out as a good idea. When first developed by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) in the 1990s, it was meant to help troubled children learn how to better regulate their emotions so that they could engage more effectively in their schoolwork and gain better results.

But over the years, the mission changed. Around 2018, CASEL pivoted toward Transformative Social Emotional Learning. It's that word 'transformative' that parents need to pay attention to. With it, the mission changed from helping individual students, to teaching students to help change society.

A glance at Social Emotional Learning curricula reveals the true nature of these lessons: they are designed to teach children neo-Marxism. Instead of classes on mindfulness, the children are taught about the "pandemic of racism" sweeping America, and to promote "equity," – that is, equality of outcome.

With more and more parents objecting to critical race theory and queer theory in their children's schools, educators are increasingly sliding in these lessons under the guise of Social Emotional Learning. Parents need to be aware of that.
