Zehr for Virginia: Special Newsletter 6/7/24

The Virginia General Assembly will go into Special Session this month, starting June 28th, to work on fixing one of the reasons I voted "NO" on the Budget: the failure to keep our commitment to our disabled veterans and their families through the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program.

This is the second bit of great news this week. As we mentioned in the newsletter earlier this week, Virginia has had a huge victory for the cause of liberty in Governor Youngkin's decision to decouple the Commonwealth from the California vehicular emission mandate. Such a mandate would've put unrealistic constrictions on automobile manufacture and transportation needs that keep our state growing and prosperous.

Speaking to the major concerns regarding VMSDEP, Republican House Minority Leader Todd Gilbert has recently made the statement:

"...House Republicans are ready to return to Richmond immediately to restore the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program. Our Gold Star families deserve no less. It is my sincere hope that my Democratic colleagues will listen to the families of these heroes and do the right thing."

It is my hope that the Democrat party with agree with us that this vital part of the budget needs to be made right--because it is "the right thing" to do. I stand firmly with the Governor and Republican House Leadership in supporting our Nation's heroes at arms, and their families, through the restoration of this part of government support that is of paramount importance.
