Congressman Good Update: Providing Confidence in Our Elections

Making Our Elections More Secure

Our wide-open border threatens and weakens our country's public safety, social services, education system, healthcare system, economy, and infrastructure. But, even more importantly, it is eroding the foundation of our republic because it is stealing the choice of who represents us from the American citizens. Since President Biden took office, he has helped millions of illegal aliens pass through our border and infiltrate our country. Many of these individuals were chanting Biden's name as they came in, praising his unlawful actions that are destroying our country.

The House took an important and necessary step this week toward protecting the integrity of our elections by passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, sponsored by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX). Although the laws on the books make it illegal for non-US citizens to vote in federal elections, there is no mandate in place to verify this information. In fact, it is currently ILLEGAL to require proof of citizenship to vote! The SAVE Act rectifies that by requiring proof of US citizenship for anyone voting in federal elections.

At least 16 cities and towns already include non-citizens on the voter rolls and permit them to vote in local elections. Moreover, under federal laws like the "Motor Voter Act" and the "Help America Vote Act," individuals who sign up to receive driver's licenses, other government ID's, and welfare benefits are automatically given the opportunity to register to vote. Illegal aliens are not supposed to be placed on voter rolls even if they fill out these forms, but in Virginia alone, more than 11,000 illegal aliens were placed on the voter rolls in the past decade.

I am proud that the House passed the SAVE Act to unequivocally ensure that only Americans can choose the elected officials in this great nation. Senate Democrats should join us in this effort to improve the security and integrity of our election results. But, sadly, most Democrats oppose this commonsense legislation, with only 5 voting to pass it in the House, and President Biden has said he will veto this bill if it passes the Senate.

Championing Limited Government

I received the Champion of Limited Government award from the Institute for Legislative Analysis for being one of only THREE in the House with a 100% conservative voting record (click here: Institute for Legislative Analysis (limitedgov.org)). I remain committed to m

Rectifying Biden's FASFA Mess

Applying to college is difficult, and the costs are rising. As part of the admissions and financialaid process, parents and students are forced to navigate the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. The Biden Administration's recent rollout of a revamped FAFSA was disastrous and harmed students, parents, and financial aid administrators.

In an Education and Workforce Committee markup on Wednesday, the Committee approved a bill that would set strict guidelines requiring the Department of Education to publish the FAFSA application by October 1 every year. I filed an amendment to the FASFA bill to ensure that the Secretary of Education is held accountable if the FAFSA deadline is missed again. My amendment was adopted unanimously and is now part of the bill eligible for consideration by the full House.

Exposing Union Abuses

I chaired the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Subcommittee hearing, where we discussed how partisan unions have become, and the abhorrent rise in antisemitism from those in leadership, as demonstrated by their communications. Union members should not be forced to pay dues that is used for political purposes they don't support.

Protecting Women

I spoke on the House Floor in favor of the resolution to nullify the Biden Administration's harmful rule that destroys Title IX's promises of equal opportunity for women and eliminates single-sex spaces such as bathrooms, locker rooms, and campus housing for female students. The House passed the resolution to repeal the rule and it now awaits a vote in the Senate. The science confirms that sex is an immutable God-created reality that cannot be changed.

Holding Attorney General Garland Accountable

Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) offered a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in inherent contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a congressional subpoena. Garland is refusing to provide audio recordings of President Biden's interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur after admitting that the Department of Justice doctored the transcript.

The American people are demanding we hold the Biden Administration accountable. I strongly supported this resolution to hold Garland in contempt if he continues to ignore the House subpoena, but sadly four Republicans sided with Democrats to defeat the resolution.

My Vote on the Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill

One of the spending bills we vote on each year funds Congress, including our Capitol Police, the Library of Congress, and all House and Senate operations. Members of the House submitted over 40 amendments to the bill, but only four were given a vote on the House floor. Ultimately, I voted against H.R. 8772, the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, because it contained a $375 million spending increase and the House failed to pass three amendments that would have eliminated an office promoting social justice programs, prohibited funding for electric vehicle charging stations on Capitol grounds, and reduced funding for the congressional physician who promoted COVID mask mandates.
