Team Miyares: Miyares Weekly Roundup

Previously convicted Richmond Man pleads guilty to possession of semi-automatic guns, ammunition, cocaine

A Richmond man pleaded guilty this week for firearm possession as a convicted felon and intent to distribute cocaine. In September 2023, Virginia State Police and Richmond Police Narcotics Detectives executed a search warrant at a Richmond residence, recovering two semi-automatic firearms, ammunition, two drum ammunition magazines, over 60 grams of cocaine, baggies of scheduled drugs, at least 200 grams of marijuana, a cash counter, and digital scales.

Prosecutors working under the canopy of Attorney General Miyares' Operation Ceasefire worked hard to secure this significant guilty plea, and will return to court for sentencing in July 2024.

Operation Ceasefire Sentences Convicted Felon for Illicit Firearm Possession

A different Richmond man was sentenced by Operation Ceasefire prosecutors to four years and nine months in prison this week for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. The firearm was loaded and later determined to have been reported stolen. At the time of arrest, the individual was found to have four previous felony convictions, including robbery involving a firearm in 2012, two convictions in 2016 for possession of controlled substances, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in 2017.
