Being Irish is a huge perk. In our travels around the world, people from all places are quick to tell us how much they love Irish culture, or how their trip to the Emerald Isle was the best they ever had.
That all changed when we were in Israel collecting stories for our play OCTOBER 7 (buy tickets here). For the first time, the locals were no fans of Ireland. That's because Ireland is the most pro-Palestine country (which is really pro-Hamas) in Europe. Why is that? On today's Ann and Phelim Scoop, that's exactly what we're talking about.
We have a great interview with our friend John McGuirk of Gript Media, one of the only dissenting outlets in Ireland's government-funded (read: controlled) media landscape. John talked to us about how Ireland views the Israel/Palestine conflict through the lens of its own history of colonization, and why this lens doesn't actually hold up. But that logic won't stop the Irish establishment from formally recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state and flying the Palestinian flag above its parliament.

But there are signs of hope because the Irish public doesn't seem to be as enthusiastic about solidarity with the people who committed the worst atrocity against Jews since the Holocaust. Listen to our great conversation with John to get the whole story.
Our play, OCTOBER 7, is still running in New York, and you can buy tickets here. This needs to be a priority because this is the only play you can see right now that tells the truth about Israel. We're also the only play in New York that needs police protection at every performance. If you can't come see the play, consider making a donation to help us cover security costs.
The play is truly incredible, but that means a lot of people don't want you to know about it. Last week on the podcast we interviewed one of the survivors whose story is in the play, along with the actress who portrays her. YouTube is censoring the views and comments. By this time we would have thousands of views and dozens of comments, but the engagement is artificially low. Watch it here, and please comment and help us fight back against the YouTube censors. |
